PRESS RELEASE: European Union and Council of Europe launch “Block Hate; Local campaign “Share the love”
PRISTINA, October 28, 2021 – No one in our society should remain silent in the face of various forms of hate speech, because we all have an important role to play in the fight against discrimination, by combating hate speech against vulnerable communities.
This was highlighted at the launch event of the joint European Union and Council of Europe awareness campaign, âBlock Hate. Share the love! â, Which was held today in the hall of the National Libraryâ PjetÃ«r Bogdani âin Pristina.
The event was opened by Mr. Frank Power, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Pristina which welcomed the participants to the event in line and in person. In his remarks he pointed out that âHate can be fought by breaking down the prejudices we have about others, by turning differences into enriching elements for our society. By uniting us, rather than creating walls.
HE, Prime Minister Albin kurti, addressed the event by stressing the importance and necessity of such campaigns, for emancipation and awareness raising towards a fairer and more egalitarian society. âThe choices we make in life are indeed our own responsibility, but no one should suffer from a lack of freedoms and rights, nor of opportunities. Ambassador TomÃ¡Å¡ Szunyog – The European Union Special Representative / Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, in his opening remarks, greeted the participants and reminded everyone present of the damage that hate speech can cause to any society . âHate speech is a serious form of discrimination, threatening individual human rights and endangering peaceful coexistence and collective tolerance. Ms. Verena Taylor, Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programs of the Council of Europe, reiterated the damage caused by hate speech in our societies, especially for the most vulnerable groups, confirming the need to reduce the acceptance of the speech of hate both online and offline. âSometimes it takes simple steps, like using human rights language when we talk to others around us., or by avoiding reposting hateful material on social networks. âShe stressed.
In his speech on Mediator Mr. Naim Qelaj echoes this regional movement to ensure a diverse and egalitarian society, calling on everyone to reject any form of hate speech that discriminates against and undermines the dignity of people and to use words as a tool to unite us in solidarity.

Share the love! “ The campaign launched today in Pristina aims to inform and educate society, and in particular young people, about the role that each has in combating the various forms of hate speech targeting specific groups and individuals in our local communities. . This awareness-raising movement which started at the regional level last December is now launched locally in all the Beneficiaries of the Western Balkans, starting with Pristina. The campaign will be extended in line through dedicated social media channels, but also in radio and TV appearances, public activities and social initiatives involving public figures, institutions and activists in personal storytelling, testimonies and the exchange of good practices related to the promotion of diversity and equality in the region. the Ambassadors without hate speech, public figures such as Rinor Gashi, Bajram Kinolli, Uta Ibrahimi and Amina Kaja, who have decided to answer the call of this campaign and actively engage in counter-narratives and behaviors, will also join and actively participate to this movement.
The campaign is supported by the action “Promotion of diversity and equality” implemented within the framework of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Horizontal facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022 â.
