PASCAGOULA, Mississippi, June 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — HII (NYSE: HII) today announced that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has named the company’s 13e amphibious transport dock, Richard M. McCool Jr.. (LPD 29), built for the US Navy.

LPD 29 is named in honor of United States Navy Captain Richard M. McCool Jr., who received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in rescuing survivors from a sinking destroyer and for rescued his own landing support ship during a World War II kamikaze attack. . His rescue efforts took place exactly 77 years before the day Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29) was baptized.
